Georgia Power Employees Shine Through Volunteerism in 2023

In a testament to their longstanding commitment to being citizens wherever they serve, Georgia Power employees showcased their dedication to their communities by completing an incredible 170 service projects throughout the state in 2023. With the collective efforts of over 5,600 dedicated volunteers, these projects contributed to a remarkable total of more than 75,000 volunteer hours.

From Brunswick to Rome, Georgia Power employees donated their time and energy to a variety of acts of service. Volunteer events last year included revitalizing local parks, renovating schools and providing assistance to those in need.

  • In Athens, a group of volunteers from the local Citizens of Georgia Power chapter came together to refurbish the headquarters of Lydia’s Place, an organization devoted to providing basic care for young adults who have experienced foster care or housing insecurity. The team from the Classic City refurbished two office spaces in the group’s home base, creating a comfortable place for clients to meet with advisors and receive the support they need to help them establish a sense of independence.
  • Volunteers from the Valdosta chapter, meanwhile, helped to restore a Boy Scout campground in Lakeland, Georgia – reinforcing a well-loved boat dock at the site, giving the Scouts a solid place to catch fish or learn to canoe.
  • The Citizens chapter in Augusta, realizing the need for a more inclusive play space in their community, volunteered at the Center for New Beginnings to remove an old playground and install new ADA compliant equipment so that every local kid has a place to play safely.

There are dozens of stories like these that come from every corner of Georgia, but for Volunteer Services Manager Chris D’Andrea, these acts just scratch the surface of Georgia Power’s commitment to community.

“Our employees fully embody the spirit of service. Their commitment to giving back uplifts and enriches lives across the state of Georgia, and their profound impact is an incredible example of what we can achieve when we come together for the good of our community.”

As we close the books on an impactful 2023, Georgia Power is looking to continue to build on their spirit of service and community, helping to create a better Georgia for all.
