Georgia Power and BETA Technologies celebrate new charging infrastructure at Augusta Airport

This week, Georgia Power representatives gathered with leaders from the Augusta Regional Airport, Georgia Department of Transportation and BETA Technologies for a ribbon cutting to commemorate new electric charging stations installed on multiple sites throughout the airport. Charging stations are installed in multiple areas at the facility, including one inside the airfield fence for aircraft charging and three dual port chargers located in short term and general aviation parking lots designed for ground vehicles.

The airport project is made possible through Georgia Power’s Make Ready Program. Through this initiative, Georgia Power helps customers install affordable electric charging infrastructure so their business can be prepared for the growing electric transportation market and support sustainability efforts. Through the Make Ready Program, Georgia Power can provide funding assistance to business customers with a variety of emission-free electric transport needs including passenger vehicle, transit bus, school bus and other technologies including electric aircraft.

BETA Technologies, a Vermont based aerospace manufacturer that develops electric aircraft, installed the chargers in partnership with Georgia Power. The aircraft charger supports fast charging up to 350kW and the installations represent BETA’s first charging stations in Georgia and first in the Southeast.

“We are proud to partner with the Augusta Regional Airport and BETA Technologies to provide the power and infrastructure for electric transportation technologies,” said Jason Cuevas, East Region Vice President for Georgia Power. “Access to infrastructure and new technology are essential as we work closely with our customers to meet their clean energy goals through electric transportation and build the future of energy together.”

At the ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, BETA offered an onsite mobile flight simulator to offer guests the opportunity to experience electric aviation and get a sense for what the future of electric transportation holds.
