Louisiana born but raised in Central Florida, Victor Ayeni didn’t move to the Peach State until 1999, at the age of 15 when he relocated to Rome, Georgia with his family. On his journeys between Orlando and Rome, Victor would often pass plant Bowen, the 3,450-megawatt steam plant outside Euharlee, Georgia. And even as a young man, Victor would think, “I’m going to be a part of that.”
Victor’s prediction would eventually come true, but his path to Plant Bowen wasn’t a straight line.
After graduating high school, Victor attended trade school to train to become a mechanic, having been interested in cars since his sister’s basketball coach, a law enforcement officer in Winter Park, Florida, showed him the classic car he’d been rebuilding as a passion project. After trade school, Victor signed on with Norfolk Southern, where he operated a train from Cedartown that made deliveries to Plants Wansley and Yates.
After a stint building train cars, Victor started working for a contractor at Plant Wansley, where he learned the inner workings of the plant and became well-prepared for an opportunity to join Georgia Power full time when it came.
Victor joined the team at Plant Bowen as an Auxiliary Equipment Operator, and has since become the plant’s senior Maintenance Specialist, where he’s responsible for the crucial operation of the plant’s water and air systems, along with maintenance schedules, vendors, budgets, and personnel.
When he’s not at the plant, Victor spends time with his wife and three children – either working and serving at their church or turning a wrench on his current project, a 1995 Chevrolet Impala. He is passionate about people and relishes the chance to educate and uplift children in his community – something he’s proud to do as a part of the team at Plant Bowen.
“If I can make an impact of the children, I can make an impact on the future.”
Victor, along with his team at Plant Bowen, is proud of the work he is doing – generating energy for an ever-growing state, and empowering his community onto bigger, better things.
“Our team is crucial. .We keep things moving – we keep things running. But I’m just trying to help make this plant the best it can be.”
