Georgia Power

In an effort to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders, the Georgia Power Atlanta Region External Affairs team welcomed 40 high school students from Atlanta Public Schools and the Dekalb County School System for an exciting and educational day at the Atlanta headquarters. This is the second academic year that this event has been held.

"Building on the success of last year's event, we have once again partnered with local school systems to highlight the incredible career opportunities at Georgia Power,” said Audrey King, senior vice president of region external affairs. “We are passionate about inspiring the next generation and believe they deserve an inside look at how our business operates.”

The students embarked on an immersive tour of Georgia Power's state-of-the-art facilities, including the cutting-edge social media center and the high-tech Storm Center. They also had the unique opportunity to interact with the latest electric vehicles, gaining insights into the future of transportation and sustainable energy from Tom Canada, project manager of the fleet electrification team.

Throughout the day, students engaged with Georgia Power leaders, learning about the importance of the electric grid, and the Grid Improvement Program in Atlanta. They experienced a hands-on demonstration with a line crew in a bucket truck, providing a real-world look at the skills and teamwork required to maintain and restore power. Additionally, a session with a drone pilot highlighted the innovative technologies used in modern utility operations.

Finally, Georgia Power employees were joined by partners from "Bee Downtown" for a DIY Candle Making experience. This creative activity not only provided a fun break but also underscored the company's commitment to community and environmental stewardship. Students were also given an up-close look at the on-campus beehives.
