Plant Arkwright began commercial operation in 1941 in Bibb County, Georgia and was retired in 2002. Prior to retirement, the four units were capable of producing a combined capacity of 160 MW of electricity.
The company prepares and submits an ash pond dewatering plan to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for its approval. The ash pond dewatering plan for Plant Arkwright was approved by EPD in December 2024. This site-specific plan identifies the enhanced water treatment system, controls and monitoring that will be used during the closure process to ensure that the water discharged is fully protective of a receiving stream's water quality.
CCR Permit documents provided herein represent the approved permit(s) and permit documents or current submittals to EPD as of January 2025. Once a CCR Permit is issued, modifications to the permit documents will be updated on this website as they are approved by the EPD.
Georgia Power is currently updating the permit application to include AP-3 Landfill and Monofill in a new on-site landfill permit application. Georgia Power has submitted a site acceptability report for the proposed on-site landfill to Georgia EPD for review.
