Income-Qualified Community Solar

Interested in solar but can't afford or install your own panels?

With the NEW Income-Qualified Community Solar program, corporate sponsors will subsidize a portion of the monthly subscription cost to allow income-qualified customers to enjoy similar benefits as customers who own their own solar panels.

Customers who qualify for the reduced rate of just $6 per month will receive one (1) block and energy credits as a line item on their electric bill.

Approved applicants will be notified. Billing changes will be reflected within 2 bill cycles.


Who should apply?

Review the Eligibility Criteria

Before completing an application, make sure you meet the basic program criteria:

  • You are a Georgia Power customer in good standing.
  • Your household income is 200% or less of the U.S. Federal Poverty guidelines for program participation.
  • Cannot participate in other company discounted programs, such as Senior Citizens discount.
  • Participation is limited to 5,000 income qualified customers, on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Available only to accounts on standard Residential “R” rate.
  • Only one account per customer can participate.
  • Meet minimum energy usage requirements.

Note: The Community Solar Program is for residential customers on the standard residential service rate only, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited availability, enrollment does not guarantee your participation, and acceptance into the program will be subject to verification by Georgia Power. You will be notified of program enrollment prior to your first Community Solar billing. If enrollment exceeds availability, you will automatically be added to a waiting list.

Will I need to list everyone in my household to participate in this program?

Yes, anyone who resides in your household, regardless of age, should be listed in your application.

How long will the approval process take?

The approval process should take approximately 5-7 business days. You will receive email notification of your application status.

What does it cost to enroll in the program?

Georgia Power's Income-Qualified Community Solar program costs $6 per 1 kilowatt (kW) block per month. Eligible customers will receive one block, no additional blocks will be granted.

 

Will I receive the same benefits of the current Community Solar program?

With the corporate sponsorship, many income-qualified customers will receive greater savings than our standard community solar program participants

How much will my block produce?

The monthly production of a 1 kW subscription block is estimated to be in the range of 115– 215 kilowatt-hours (kWh), with the average monthly production estimated to be 165 kWh. Note that solar production can vary due to the sun's angle, time of year, the number of cloudy days in the month, and other factors.

What will my bill look like?

Your Georgia Power bill will include a line item showing your monthly subscription fee and your pro-rata share of the farms' solar generation (in kWh) during the month, which will offset your electric consumption. Please note that your bill will still include charges for your remaining monthly energy usage, according to your existing residential rate, including any applicable taxes, franchise fees or environmental costs.

How long am I committed?

You may enroll in an initial 12-month subscription, which automatically renews on a month-to-month basis unless canceled. You may cancel at any time but are required to provide 30 days' notice to Georgia Power. There are no termination fees. However, you must wait 12 months after cancellation before becoming eligible to rejoin the program.
